When making a claim, what you must do
Contact your insurer as soon as possible. Calls are generally monitored 24 hours a day to assist you should an emergency arise. Repairer information is also supplied to help get your claim resolved quickly. Make sure you have your policy number ready to quote the customer service officer.
Making a claim
As a soon as possible after the event that causes the loss or damage, or legal liability, you must:
Do's
Take all reasonable steps to stop any further loss from occurring.
Keep the property that is damaged so that we can inspect it.
Where appropriate, make a report to the police (you must report malicious damage and theft or attempted theft of insured property, and also accidental loss of personal valuables)
Contact insurer and explain all details
Tell the insurer about any prosecution or inquest that may be held
Complete the claim form and any other form they may ask you to complete.
Send insurer any document relating to your claim as soon as required by them
Don'ts
Admit guilt or fault (except in court or to the police)
Offer or negotiate to pay a claim
Admit liability
Authorise repairs to commence without insurer's approval
