QuickBooks smart tags dynamically recognises your customers name in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook® and presents QuickBooks users with actions based on that text.  When Outlook recognises the Customer name, the name is marked with a smart tag indicator, or purple dotted underline. To find out what actions you can take with a smart tag, move the insertion point over the text with a smart tag indicator until the Smart Tag Actions button appears. Click the button to see a menu of actions.
To evoke the action simply click and release and the information is placed in the document. In this case the Ending Balance for the customer.

 How to start using Smart Tags for QuickBooks Pro 2002 & 2003? To start using QuickBooks 2003 smart tags you must have QuickBooks Pro 2002 & 2003, and Office XP installed on your local machine.  How to turn off Smart Tags? If you decide that you don't want to use smart tags its easy to turn them off:
On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options.... |
Click the Smart Tags tab |
Clear the Show Smart Tag Actions buttons check box |
Click OK. |
